Visit three Mayan villages. San Juan, San Pedro, and Santiago Atitlan 1) San Juan la Laguna (a remote tzutujil village) You will encounter a wide variety of birds and plants. Meet local artists, both painters and weavers. The local textiles are made by hand, with natural dyes using both a belt and pedal method of hand weaving. Visit the capitulos of Santo Domingo de Guzman and San Juan Bautista. 2) San Pedro la Laguna. With it´s colonial church and monument to San Pedro the Apostol, traditional market. Galleries of the local painters and artists. Coffee plantations and processing. 3) Santiago Atitlan. Beautiful traditional dress with bird motifs, with the women using an interesting head covering called a tocoyal. A Mayan sauna (El Tuj). Wood sculptures. Traditional market and artists shops.
